On October 11, Haikou Meilan International Airport, under Hainan Holdings, launched two direct routes to Malaysia, namely Haikou–Penang and Haikou–Kota Kinabalu, enabling passengers to fly nonstop to travel to George Town and Tanjung Aru Beach. The simultaneous launch of the two routes is expected to further unlock tourism consumption potential by capitalizing on the mutual visa exemption policy between China and Malaysia. It will also provide stronger support for economic and trade cooperation, cultural and tourism exchanges, and business travel between the Hainan Free Trade Port and ASEAN countries.
The Haikou–Penang route is operated by Hainan Airlines using Boeing 737 series aircraft, with two flights per week on Wednesdays and Sundays. Outbound flight HU477 is scheduled to depart Meilan Airport at 17:30 Beijing time and arrive at Penang International Airport at 20:45 local time. Return flight HU478 is scheduled to depart Penang International Airport at 21:45 local time and arrive at Meilan Airport at 1:00 Beijing time the following day.
The Haikou–Kota Kinabalu route is operated by 9 Air using Boeing 737 series aircraft, with three flights every two weeks. Flights operate on Fridays and Sundays in the first week and on Wednesdays in the following week. Outbound flight AQ1293 is scheduled to depart Meilan Airport at 1:55 Beijing time and arrive at Kota Kinabalu International Airport at 5:25 local time. Return flight AQ1294 is scheduled to depart Kota Kinabalu International Airport at 6:25 local time and arrive at Meilan Airport at 10:00 Beijing time.
