To facilitate Taiwan compatriots’ air travel to the mainland, CAAC set out to upgrade civil aviation self-service equipment at airports at the end of 2016, in order to enable automatic identification of Mainland Travel Permit for Taiwan Residents (MTP) by self-service equipment.

At present, the project is progressing smoothly. It’s learned that about 800 self-service ticket vending equipment at mainland airports have been able to support manual input of MTP number for ticket purchase. A portion of self-check-in equipment at Fuzhou, Shanghai Hongqiao, Shanghai Pudong airports, among others, can automatically identify the MTPs. It’s expected that by the end of this year, about 1700 self-check-in equipment at mainland civil airports will complete the update or replacement of hardware and software, which will bring further convenience to Taiwan compatriots’ travel by air.
