The Monthly Meeting on Operation Safety Analysis was held at CAAC on June 12, to analyze the state of aviation safety in May and make preparations for the next-step civil aviation safety related work. CAAC Administrator Feng Zhenglin emphasized that the industry shall strictly and practically address aviation safety issues, pay high attention to the quality and level of work executed in aircraft maintenance, fully understand the critical and fundamental role of aircraft maintenance in aviation safety, relentlessly strive for a better performance in aircraft maintenance, vigorously advocate the spirit of craftsman, earnestly solidify the foundation for aviation safety, and greet the 19th CPC National Congress with excellent performance. Leaders from CAAC departments and bureaus and some civil aviation organizations based in Beijing attended the meeting.
Feng pointed out that the overall state of safety in the industry remained steady in May. The supportive tasks for the Belt & Road Forum for International Cooperation, C919 test flight and the Ninth China Civil Aviation Development Forum were successfully accomplished. However, we shall remain vigilant for various hidden safety hazards in operations, focusing in particular on containing the upward trend of unsafe events caused by aircraft maintenance. He emphasized that civil aviation safety shall be continuously improved by following the two requirements for aircraft maintenance which are strict standards and solid work.
Feng said that the issue of aviation safety shall not be taken lightly as the current season features peaked traffic volume and a marked increase in the frequency of high temperature, thunder and lightning, storms and gales, and other adverse weather conditions. In line with the national work safety month campaign falling in June, the whole industry is carrying out its own safety campaign themed “ascertaining the responsibilities to be fulfilled by enterprises to maintain operation safety”, which aims to identify hidden hazards via thorough safety checks and inspections, develop corrective action checklist, and urge relevant enterprises to identify and control potential safety hazards in operations, thus ensuring successful implementation of various safety management provisions and measures.
In May, the whole industry carried a total traffic of 8.94 billion ton-kilometers, representing a year-on-year growth of 16.2%, the highest monthly growth rate in two years; passenger traffic of 44 976 000, representing a year-on-year growth of 15.3%; and 599 000 tons of cargo and mail, representing a year-on-year growth of 8.2% and including 190 000 tons on international routes, which was a historical high. The on-time performance rate of domestic flights reached 72.4%, growing by 0.5% compared to that of the previous month.
