The First Maintenance Vocational Skill Contest of China Civil Aviation Held13/12/2017

The First Maintenance Vocational Skill Contest of China Civil Aviation was held in Civil Aviation University of China on November 21 with the theme of “Promoting Quality Craftsman and Improving Vocational Skills”. A total of 18 teams with 54 contestants selected from nation-wide aircraft maintenance entities participated in the event, competing for honors including the National Civil Aviation May 1st Labor Medal, National Civil Aviation Worker of Gold Medal, National Civil Aviation Technical Craftsman, National Civil Aviation Outstanding Young Craftsman, and Model Youth of National Civil Aviation Posts. CAAC Administrator Feng Zhenglin and Deputy Administrator Li Jian attended the contest and presented awards to winners. Zhao Chao, Zhou Shangfei and Wang Wei from China Eastern Airlines won the first prizes for individuals. The No.2 team from China Eastern Airlines won the first prize for teams.

Feng Zhenglin stressed that aircraft maintenance is vital for flight safety and encouraged maintenance staff to become quality craftsman. At present, civil aviation industry in China keeps growing rapidly. It requires higher qualifications and skills of aircraft maintenance staff to ensure the safety of large-scale fleets. He encouraged young workers to do a good job in a down-to-earth manner while aiming high and looking far, be devoted to their duties and diligent in refining their skills, strictly conform to regulations and manuals, and be bold to make innovations and improve their skills.

Feng required civil aviation institutions to attach high importance to cultivating aircraft maintenance staff, give them humanistic care, improve their working conditions and offer them more development opportunities so as to attract more young people to get engaged in the industry.

Li Jian indicated that in recent years China’s civil aviation has kept a steady safety record, and aircraft and engines are among the most reliable ones all over the world thanks to the long-term assiduous efforts of aircraft maintenance workers. He hoped all maintenance staff could improve their skills and enhance their awareness of compliance and further implement the requirements raised in the 19th National CPC Congress Report of building an educated, skilled, and innovative workforce, fostering respect for model workers, promoting quality workmanship, and seeing that taking pride in labor becomes a social norm and seeking excellence is valued as a good work ethic.

The contest was authorized by All-China Federation of Trade Unions, jointly organized by CAAC’s Department of Flight Standard, National Civil Aviation Trade Union, CAAC’s Department of Personnel, Science and Technology and Education, and National Civil Aviation Youth League Committee and hosted by Civil Aviation University of China. The biennial event is the top-level national competition of civil aircraft maintenance in China.
