On March 15-16, CAAC Deputy Administrator Wang Zhiqing led a delegation of the Chinese government and attended the 213th Session of the Council of the International Civil Aviation Organization (ICAO) in Montreal, Canada. During the meeting, Liu Fang, the incumbent Secretary-General of ICAO from China was re-elected the Secretary-General, and Huang Jiefang, a Chinese senior staff member was elected the Director of Legal Affairs and External Relations Bureau. Lu Shaye, Chinese Ambassador to Canada was also present at the event.
On behalf of the Chinese government, Wang Zhiqing made remarks in which he congratulated Liu Fang’s re-election and thanked ICAO and other member states for their support to China. Wang expected that under the leadership of ICAO Council President Aliu and Secretary General Liu Fang, ICAO will continue in innovation and moving forward, accommodate the concerns of member states and the international community, and enhance the solidarity, harmony and strength of ICAO, the great family. Wang indicated that China will, as always, support the programs of ICAO, and work together with other member states in a proactive way to participate in international civil aviation cooperation, therefore making even greater contribution to the safe, orderly, efficient and sustainable development of the global civil aviation industry.
During his stay in Canada, Wang also meet with Assistant Deputy Minister, Safety and Security, Lori MacDonald of Transport Canada, and exchanged views with him on, among others, the expansion of bilateral airworthiness cooperation and bilateral air transport market.
