On April 13, CAAC Administrator Feng Zhenglin stressed at the monthly meeting on operation safety analysis that in order to enhance safety management work at small and medium-sized airports, efforts must be made on addressing grassroots safety, underpinning the groundwork and practicing basic skills, so as to comprehensively improve safety support capabilities of small and medium-sized airports.

Feng Zhenglin pointed out that small and medium-sized airports are an important component that facilitates civil aviation operation, as well as a significant link to ensure the overall operation safety of the industry. At present, small and medium-sized airports in China feature large quantity and weak foundation, being one of the weakest links in the whole safety management chain of China’s civil aviation. Therefore, to guarantee safe and stable operations of China’s transport airports, attention and efforts must be focused on safety management of small and medium-sized airports.

Regarding safety management work at small and medium-sized airports, Feng Zhengling raised requirements for three aspects. First, efforts shall be made on addressing grassroots safety, underpinning the groundwork and practicing basic skills, so as to comprehensively improve safety support capabilities of small and medium-sized airports; second, coordinative operation shall be emphasized so as to effectively control operation safety risks of military-civil airports; and third, by means of in-depth investigation and research, the deep-rooted issues lying in the safety management of small and medium-sized airports shall be solved, with a particular focus on issues of safety responsibility fulfilling, ATC team building at small and medium-sized airports, and safety supervision resources brought by the transformation of airport management model.
