On June 26, 2018, in the presence of Chinese President Xi Jinping, Brazilian President Michel Temer, Russian President Vladimir Putin, Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi and South African President Matamela Cyril Ramaphosa, CAAC Administrator Feng Zhenglin, the Minister from the Ministry of Transportation, Ports and Civil Aviation of the Republic of Brazil Valter Casimiro Silveira, the Minister from Ministry of Transport of the Russian Federation Sokolov, Indian Civil Aviation Minister Suresh Prabhu and South African Transport Minister Blade Nzimande signed in Johannesburg, South Africa a Memorandum of Understanding on Regional Aviation Partnership among the Ministry of Transportation, Ports and Civil Aviation of the Republic of Brazil, the Ministry of Transport of the Russian Federation, the Ministry of Civil Aviation of Government of India, the Civil Aviation Administration of the People’s Republic of China and the Ministry of Transport of the Republic of South Africa. The MOU has identified the areas and ways of cooperation in the field of civil aviation for BRICS nations, and has established a cooperation mechanism.

Since the establishment of the BRICS cooperation mechanism, the foundation for cooperation has been increasingly strengthened and the scope of cooperation has been gradually expanded. The BRICS cooperation has extended its influence beyond the five countries and has become a constructive force for promoting world economic growth, improving global governance, and promoting democratization of international relations. Aviation cooperation is an important component in the pragmatic cooperation among BRICS countries. The signing of the MOU will effectively promote the comprehensive development of regional aviation cooperation among BRICS nations and is an important milestone in strengthening the BRICS cooperation in the fields of connectivity and infrastructure.
