CAAC Issued a Notice on the Runway Excursion of CXA8667 of Xiamen Airlines10/09/2018

In the evening of August 16, a Xiamen Airlines Boeing B738/B5498 performing flight CXA8667 from Xiamen to Manila took off from Xiamen at 21:23 and went off the runway after landing on Manila Airport's runway 24 at 23:55, with the left engine separated from the wing. The 165 occupants, including 157 passengers and 8 crew members (the captain being a Korean) have all safely evacuated and no injuries were recorded in the initial report. The accident happened as heavy downpour hit the airport with visibility of 2,000 meters, wind direction 280, wind speed 11 knots, and cloud base 540 meters.

CAAC established a team of investigators which was sent to the site to assist Philippine Air Accident Investigation Agency in conducting investigation. CAAC has immediately issued an industry wide notice, requiring that firm measures be taken and the bottom line of ensuring safe operation be kept. CAAC and its East Regional Administration have established a joint working group which was dispatched to Xiamen Airlines.
