CAAC Briefs on the Landing of Capital Airlines’ CBJ5759 at Alternate Shenzhen Airport10/09/2018

On 28 August, 2018, the flight CBJ5759 from Beijing-Macao operated by Capital Airlines’ aircraft using an aircraft A320/B6952 carried on board 9 crew members and 157 passengers. After an unsuccessful landing at Macao International Airport at 11:16, the crew requested to land at alternate Shenzhen International Airport, declaring a MAYDAY (emergency state), turning on the transponder 7700 and reporting a malfunctioned left engine and landing gear. At 11:58, the aircraft landed on the Runway 34 and the two tires on the front landing gear were later found missing. The passengers were evacuated while the aircraft was on the runway. During the evacuation 5 passengers were sent to hospital because of their poor physical conditions and the evacuation operation finished at 12:13. During this period, Shenzhen International Airport activated the emergency mechanism and closed Runway 34 temporarily. At present, Shenzhen Safety Supervision and Management Bureau of CAAC Central and Southern Regional Administration has engaged in the investigation.
