On October 9, the 13th Air Navigation Conference of ICAO was held in Montréal, Canada. CAAC Deputy Administrator Wang Zhiqing participated in the conference with a Chinese government delegation which consisted of representatives from CAAC, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Air Traffic Control Committee of the State Council and the Central Military Commission, Hong Kong Civil Aviation Department and Macao Civil Aviation Authority.
The theme of this conference is From Development to Implementation. More than 1000 delegates from 112 countries and 32 international organizations attended the conference. Discussions were held surrounding topics such as flight safety, air navigation capacity and efficiency, and social benefits of aviation. The reports on recommendations regarding air navigation and aviation safety issues generated during the conference will be submitted for approval to the 40th Session of the ICAO Assembly to be held in 2019. First held in 1953, the Air Navigation Conference has been the most wide ranging and influential professional air navigation conference in addition to the ICAO Assembly, and is extremely important for leading and guiding the development of the aviation industry.
According to the subjects of the conference and taking into account of the developments of air navigation in China, China submitted 22 working and information papers to the conference. Also, VariFlight and Haige Communications Group attended the conference as Chinese Exhibitors.
During the conference, Wang Zhiqing also met with ICAO Council President and Secretary General, and held bilateral talks with delegations of France, Canada, European Union, Singapore, etc. They exchanged in-depth views on topics such as air transport, technical cooperation and aviation emission reduction.
