From October 10 to 13, bilateral aviation talks were held in Dominica between delegations from China headed by CAAC Deputy Administrator Wang Zhiqing and from the Dominican side. A memorandum of understanding on traffic rights arrangements was signed and an Air Services Agreement between the two governments was initialed by Dominican Foreign Minister Miguel Vargas and Wang Zhiqing. The agreement lays a legal foundation for air transport enterprises of the two sides to launch flights and carry out business cooperation. Chinese Ambassador to Dominica Zhang Run attended the signing ceremony.
During the talks, Wang Zhiqing and Luis E. Camilo, President of the Dominican Republic's Civil Aviation Board, exchanged views on establishing aviation ties between the two countries and strengthening civil aviation cooperation. Wang Zhiqing expressed that China has attached importance to the development of China-Dominica civil aviation relations and is willing to work with all parties to continuously strengthen mutually beneficial and friendly cooperation as well as to promote the development of civil aviation relations between the two countries. In the future, Chinese and Dominican airlines will carry out specific discussions on business cooperation such as code sharing, so as to establish route links to facilitate the exchange of personnel between the two sides and deepen economic and trade development.
China and Dominica established ambassadorial-level diplomatic relations in May 2018, which brings about broader prospect for cooperation. Dominica is the largest economy in Central America and the Caribbean area, and also China's largest trading partner and export destination in that region. Dominica has abundant tourism resources and it is the largest tourist destination in Central America and the Caribbean. In June this year, China officially listed it as a destination country for Chinese citizens to travel abroad. In the future, economic and trade cooperation between the two countries will be closer, personnel exchanges will be more frequent, and the prospects for civil aviation cooperation are very bright.
