Smart Civil Aviation is a major task for the high-quality development of civil aviation in the new era. On November 22, the 16th Informatization Forum of CAAC with the theme of Smart Civil Aviation was held in Chengdu, Sichuan Province. CAAC Deputy Administrator Lyu Erxue emphasized in his speech that the whole industry should further enhance the sense of urgency, sense of responsibility and sense of mission; speed up in the building of Smart Civil Aviation; promote high-quality development of civil aviation, in order to make new and more contribution to the efforts of developing China into a country with a strong civil aviation industry. Relevant officials from the municipalities of Sichuan, Chengdu and Jianyang participated in the forum and delivered speeches.

The Forum was hosted by CAAC News, co-organized by TravelSky, the Second Research Institute of CAAC, Sichuan Province Airport Group Company Limited and Huawei Technologies Co., Ltd. During one and a half day, over 400 guests were gathered together, including informatization-related officials and leaders from CAAC, CAAC Regional Administrations, airlines, airports, Air Traffic Management Bureau, supporting enterprises, and R&D institutes, as well as experts, scholars, and representatives from well-known IT enterprises in China. They have held discussions around topics such as the application of internet, cloud computing, big data and artificial intelligence in the civil aviation industry, as well as the building of smart administration, smart airport, smart air traffic control, and smart security to push forward the Smart Civil Aviation. The Forum also held a ceremony for the inauguration of the Civil Aviation Informatization Development Alliance.

Lyu Erxue highlighted that realizing smart development is the requirement of the era undergoing the new round of technology revolution. It is also requisite for high-quality civil aviation development, and practical for us to realize the goal of civil aviation powerhouse. Currently, we are in the critical juncture of shifting from a country with strong capacity to powerhouse in civil aviation, and therefore wisdom is called for more than ever before to guide the development, and to realize its evolution in quality, efficiency and driving forces. The whole industry should be keenly aware of the significance of Smart Civil Aviation and to be firm and persistent in its implementation. We should aim to realize the civil aviation powerhouse, focusing on the main constructions and problems in every stage, identifying correctly the direction and key links, relying on scientific and technological means, and basing on advanced and intelligent information systems to provide technological support for the realization of our goal.

At present, we have gained initial results in the building of Smart Civil Aviation. Facial recognition and paperless boarding process have been rolled out across the country; A-CDM with airport as the main operating entity and CDM with ATC as the main entity were widely adopted; PBN operation on the main routes in China was realized; ADS-B air traffic control operation have been fully implemented; HUD technology was widely used; the first domestic demonstration zone of civil aviation science and technology innovation were located in Tianfu Airport; Civil Aviation Operation Data Center of China was inaugurated. Beijing Daxing International Airport, which represents the highest level of smart airport in China, will be open to air traffic on September 30 next year as scheduled. The civil aviation industry has formed a good atmosphere to promote the building of Smart Civil Aviation.
