On November 27, CAAC Deputy Administrator Wang Zhiqing met with a delegation led by Chan Weng Hong, President of Civil Aviation Authority of Macao. The two sides exchanged in-depth views on deepening exchanges and cooperation in civil aviation between the mainland of China and Macao and promoting integrated development of civil aviation in the Greater Bay Area. After the meeting, Deputy Director General of Department of Air Transport Yu Biao and President of Civil Aviation Authority of Macao Chan Weng Hong signed MOU on air services arrangements between the two sides, witnessed by CAAC Deputy Administrator Wang Zhiqing.
Compared with the MOU signed by the two sides in 2009, the new MOU finalized the matters agreed by the two sides via correspondence in recent years. It increased service points and expanded opening up, with the number of service points in China’s mainland increasing to 68; removed requirements for approval for code sharing between China’s mainland and Macao; streamlined procedures of designating airlines to operate routes between China’s mainland and Macao; loosened cross-border transport arrangements for helicopters between Guangdong and Macao; opened code sharing of multimodal sea-air and ground-air transport between China’s mainland and Macao.
So far, the new MOU is the most open air services arrangement between China’s mainland and Macao, which will help Macao fully integrate into national development and facilitate the building of “one center, one platform” by Macao, and thus further advance the development of the Greater Bay Area.
