Working Together to Fight Against the Epidemic20/02/2020

The sudden arrival of the coronavirus epidemic cast a shadow over the land of China, which was supposed to be full of laughter and joy during the festival break. In the face of the epidemic, the whole civil aviation industry did not retreat. Instead, they bravely fought back from their posts, and worked together in a vow to win this war against the epidemic.

Capital Airport Branch of the Aviation Security Bureau Moved Against All Odds Toward the Forefront of Epidemic Prevention and Control

Policemen of the Capital Airport Branch of the Aviation Security Bureau Are Patrolling the Terminal.

It was a normal night at Beijing Daxing International Airport, which was not much different from other nights despite of the Spring Festival. But expecting the unexpected is often the norm at police stations.

“Don’t worry. I am in good health as I exercise regularly, so I am the one most suitable for wearing protective clothing”.

Soon after learning of an alarm coming from the cabin, Pu Jiangbo, chief of the police station serving the terminal area of Daxing Airport, rushed to “stuff” himself into the protective clothing together with another two policemen, Deng Xudong and Pan Lichao. Without any hesitation, they dashed toward the bridge and into the cabin, leaving behind their colleagues watching with worry.

In a war without gunpowder smoke, what they had to do was to race against time and be involved in forefront fight with the merciless disease.

It lasted seven hours.

Gruesome waiting tortures everyone. The palms of colleagues waiting outside became sweaty, and the feedback information from limited contacts tensed everyone up.

After a long anxious wait from the first half of the night till dawn, finally there came good news at day break.

As they walked wearily out of the cabin, their protective clothing clung to their sweaty bodies, disposable helmets left deep marks on their foreheads, and disposable rubber gloves became transparent because of sweat. The moment they took off their gloves, sweat from the gloves flowed into the trash can, and their hands soaked in sweat became wrinkled and white.

There were no applauses or cheers from the people present who looked at them with worried eyes filled with tears and silently thumbed up.

As usual, they fought tooth and nail at the forefront of the national battle against the epidemic, just to keep the danger at bay.

No one was born brave, but because of the career they chose, they had to take on this responsibility.

Kunming Changshui Airport Makes both Travelers and Staff at Work Safe

On January 24th, the Lunar New Year’s Eve, Yunnan Province launched its first-level response to major public health emergency.

On January 25, the first day of the Lunar New Year, Kunming Changshui Airport embraced the first snowfall of 2020.

It is said that the auspicious snow heralds a bumper harvest for the year. With the simultaneous arrival of the epidemic and snow, staff at Kunming Airport were destined to usher in the Geng-zi Year of Mouse on the lunar calendar in an extraordinary way.

The timing of the pneumonia outbreak caused by novel coronavirus was intertwined with the Spring Festival travel rush when there are a large number of passengers across China flying home or to tourist destinations. Therefore, it couldn’t be more true that airport staff were at the forefront of epidemic prevention and control. Accordingly, Kunming Airport developed and issued a disinfection program aimed at epidemic prevention and control, carried out activities to disinfect the terminal buildings and office areas, and trained employees on epidemic prevention. While making persistent efforts to follow the epidemic development, strengthen risk awareness and clarify responsibilities, management staff at all levels fought alongside on-site support personnel and tried to relieve the psychological stress of the employees. Also, they made every effort possible to acquire face masks, infrared thermometers, protective clothing, disinfectants and other materials to ensure that front-line staff were fully protected while on duty, thus eliminating, to the greatest extent possible, the fear of the staff and lifting their morale.

During this year’s Spring Festival holiday, a great many Wechat groups that should otherwise have been “quiet” became particularly heated up. “Please rest assured that we will live up to our mission and provide our support against all odds”, “As a party member, I must take the lead”, “I want to set an example for my children”, “I am an experienced veteran pilot...” With these solemn promises, the staff at Kunming Airport, who were at the forefront in the battle against the epidemic, showed their courage and determination to “fight hard”, with their fighting spirit burning like a fire in the wind, frost, rain and snow.

Pu Qin, leader of the third squadron of the fourth brigade at Kunming Airport Security Inspection Station, is a native of Lijiang, Yunnan Province. After her military demobilization in 2004, she started her career at Lijiang Airport and was transferred to Kunming Airport in 2010. This was the first time in her 16 years career that she was able to take a break during the Spring Festival. She originally planned to take her two children to Chongqing to get reunited with her parents-in-law, but received the news that she needed to be on duty as the airport was on its way to prevent and control the coronavirus outbreak. Without waiting for a notice from her supervisor, Pu Qin offered to give up her holiday and has been risking her life providing passenger services without a word of complaint. On January 27, she participated fully in the activities aimed at providing a green channel for the first batch of medical team sent by Yunnan to Hubei, and provided convenient and fast quality service for the departing medical staff, setting a good example for her fellow party member colleagues to follow.

Hebei Airport Group Showed Its Determination to Fight an Uphill Battle in Epidemic Prevention and Control

In order to make headway with the prevention and control of the pneumonia outbreak caused by novel coronavirus, the Party Committee of Hebei Airport Group set up a leadership group on epidemic prevention and control at the earliest possible time. To fully implement the guiding principles of the central government of China and the requirements from the higher authorities, the Party Committee acted quickly in developing prevention and control measures and improving its corresponding emergency response plan. Also, in a timely response to the changing epidemic development, it held meetings on work arrangement and made dynamic adjustment to its program, in an effort to fully implement various epidemic prevention and control measures. Additionally, it issued a Notice on Strengthening the Party’s Leadership to Decisively Win a War in the Prevention and Control of the Epidemic. As required by the notice, all primary-level Party organizations, party members and cadres must exhibit their most resolute attitude, take the most stringent measures, show the most solid work style and follow the most stringent disciplines, to ensure that the epidemic prevention and control is carried out vigorously, orderly and efficiently, and that the health and safety of passengers and staff are guaranteed. The notice can serve as a powerful political guidance for winning the war against the epidemic.

Various entities at the airport set up Party member vanguard teams and demonstration posts and identified party members’ responsibilities. Meanwhile, party member volunteers were active in the forefront of epidemic prevention and control. All party members in the forefront played an exemplary role and they strictly followed the guiding principles of the Party.

Starting January 22, passengers at Shijiazhuang Airport terminal were required to have their body temperature measured while waiting for security inspection. Temperature monitoring points were also set up at the passenger shuttle bus station at the airport. Cai Wenhua, deputy director of Shijiazhuang Airport Emergency Center, said “Body temperature monitoring requires passengers to pass through the monitoring points one by one, which may slow down passenger flow to a certain extent. But only in this way can the safety of passengers be ensured.” Shijiazhuang Airport actively performed its due responsibilities, and established a joint prevention and control mechanism with relevant entities such as Health Commission of Hebei Province, Department of Transportation of Hebei Province, and epidemic prevention departments of Shijiazhuang City and Zhengding County, and with such resident entities as customs, airlines and air traffic control, which allowed timely communication and notification of information. The airport also set aside stands for emergency isolation of aircraft as part of its effort to ensure that timely epidemic prevention and control measures are put in place within the airport. Facing the lack of medical staff, the epidemic prevention department of Zhengding County sent professional medical staff to Shijiazhuang airport, enabling the airport to have medical staff on duty on a 24-hour basis to conduct timely inspection and efficient transfer of passengers with fever.

At 10:30 on February 1, Liu Chen, a check-in counter service staff at Shijiazhuang Airport, was disinfecting the check-in counter on a once every two hours basis. Liu Chen said, “in order to prevent passengers from gathering, we are putting into service all check-in counters. At the same time, we have set up a vanguard team made up of party members. Party members will provide voluntary service after work to guide passengers in front of check-in counters.”

It is reported that as required by the Work Plan for the Prevention and Control of Pneumonia Caused by Novel Coronavirus, Shijiazhuang Airport service staff will disinfect and clean on an on-going basis the elevator handrails, self-service check-in facilities, water dispensers, rest rooms and other service facilities; disinfect and clean every two hours the terminal arrival and departure hall, nursing room, elevator boxes, service counters, baggage claim carousels and office areas; disinfect airport ferry buses after each use; and disinfect the vehicles, facilities and equipment used to support major flights, so as to mitigate the risk of epidemic spread.

At present, Shijiazhuang airport is putting into full service the fresh air system at its terminal, which is regularly disinfected by the service staff.

Efforts to ensure the health of every employee on duty also benefit the passengers. Since the outbreak of the epidemic, Shijiazhuang Airport has taken immediate action to provide medical masks, goggles, disinfectant, gloves and other protective devices for front-line staff who are in close contact with passengers, and disinfect thoroughly all the spots and facilities that passengers have close contact with. Through its official Weibo and Wechat accounts, the airport disseminated information on epidemic prevention and control, provided psychological counseling to its employees and made the public aware of the knowledge on prevention and control. In addition, to make the work and life of employees more convenient, the airport also delivered instant noodles and VC effervescent tablets, among others.
