From the early morning of February 8 to 10, CAAC urgently organized and coordinated 50 emergency charter flights transporting 6,288 medical personnel and supplies from across the country to assist Wuhan. This was the largest medical transportation mission ever performed by civil aviation since the beginning of the current disease outbreak.

According to the unified deployment of the joint prevention and control mechanism of the novel coronavirus, 13 provinces (regions, municipalities) namely Shanghai, Tianjin, Liaoning, Hebei, He’nan, Shandong, Shanxi, Guangdong, Jiangsu, Zhejiang, Fujian, Sichuan, and Shaanxi have sent additional 34 medical teams to Wuhan. The batch of charter flights were carried out by nine domestic airlines, including China Eastern Airlines, China Southern Airlines, Xiamen Airlines, Sichuan Airlines, Shandong Airlines, Tianjin Airlines, Loong Air, Hebei Airlines and Yuantong Airlines. Among them, on February 9, China Eastern Airlines operated 18 charter flights in one day and transported 13 medical teams from 5 provinces (regions, municipalities), namely Shanghai, Shandong, Shanxi, Jiangsu, and Zhejiang to Wuhan, with a total of more than 2,100 medical personnel; China Southern Airlines performed 13 charter flights on February 8 and 9, which transported 10 medical teams from Liaoning, Guangdong, and He’nan province to Wuhan, with a total of more than 1,800 medical personnel. It was worth mentioning that, in order to maximally meet the transportation needs of medical personnel, Yuantong Airlines has joined this task for the first time; Xiamen Airlines also arranged a special charter flight to transport Xiamen medical team's accompanying medical supplies.

Up to now, a total of 15 domestic airlines have performed 122 missions for medical teams, transported 15,789 personnel, and 653 tons of accompanying luggage and supplies.
