CAAC Issues Three “Circuit Breaker” Orders in a Single Day19/08/2020

On August 11, CAAC announced three “circuit breaker” orders, according to which Etihad Airways’ Flight EY862, China Eastern Airlines’ Flight MU212, and Srilankan Airlines’ Flight UL866 will be grounded.

On August 3, 6 passengers on Etihad Airways’ Flight EY862 from Abu Dhabi to Shanghai tested positive in the Covid-19 nucleic acid test, resulting in the suspension of the flight for one week starting from August 17; on August 5, 6 passengers on China Eastern Airlines’ Flight MU212 from Manila to Shanghai turned up positive, causing the flight to be grounded for one week starting from August 17; on August 7, 23 passengers on Srilankan Airlines Flight UL866 from Colombo to Shanghai tested positive, causing the flight to be grounded for four weeks starting from August 17. The quota for each of the flights is not allowed to be transfered to other routes.

The three airlines can continue to operate their flights prior to August 17, and suspension will be extended accordingly if another circuit breaker is triggered before this date.
