CAAC Holds the Regular Press Conference of August26/08/2020

CAAC held a regular press conference on August 13 which reported on the safe operation of civil aviation in July, and introduced the progress of the publicity and education of the “Three Respects” as well as poverty alleviation carried out this year. Nearly 30 domestic and foreign mainstream media participated in the press conference online.

Civil aviation transport continued to rebound in July

According to Wu Shijie, Deputy Director General of the Aviation Safety Office of CAAC, the entire industry completed 777,000 hours of transport flight and 109,000 hours of general aviation flight in July, representing a year-on-year decrease of 28.6% and an increase of 7.4%, and a month-on-month increase of 13.8% and 7.4% respectively. No accidents were reported. As of the end of July, China’s transport aviation had continued to operate safely for 119 months, or 84.94 million hours. Civil aviation transport continued to rebound in July: a total transport turnover of 6.88 billion ton-kilometers was completed, which registered a year-on-year decrease of 39.3%, down by 3.4 percentage points compared with the previous month; 39.1 million passengers were transported, which represented a year-on-year decrease of 34.1%, down by 8.3 percentage points compared with that in June; 552,000 tons of mail and cargo were transported, decreasing by 10.4% year-on-year, and the decline expanded by 4.7 percentage points compared with that in June. Of the total mail and cargo volume, 229,000 tons were carried by all-cargo aircraft, an increase of 20.4% year-on-year. In July, with a daily average of 11,941 flights, 370,000 flights of various types were supported, which decreased by 30.3% year-on-year and increased by 10.4% month-on-month. The national flight regularity rate stood at 85.6%.

Continuous publicity and education of the “Three Respects”

In order to thoroughly implement the instructions given by President Xi Jinping on civil aviation safety, and to resolutely conduct the “Two Upholds” and safety tasks during the epidemic prevention and control period to ensure the safe and stable operation of the industry, CAAC has deployed and carried out the publicity and education of “Respect for Life, Respect for Rules, and Respect for Responsibility” as well as safety rectification activities within the industry to “improve the working conduct, strengthen the ‘Three Basics’, and safeguard the bottom line”.

Further implementing the annual poverty alleviation task

2020 is the year to secure a decisive victory in building a moderately prosperous society in all respects, and the year of winning the battle against poverty. At the press conference, Bao Yi, Deputy Director General of the Department of Development Planning of CAAC, introduced three major tasks of CAAC in combating poverty, namely poverty alleviation in the civil aviation industry, targeted support for Yutian and Cele in Xinjiang Hotan, and the partner assistance given to the twining district of Nankang, Ganzhou City of Jiangxi Province.
