On the night of October 16, 2020, CAAC participated in the teleconference of the ICAO Council Aviation Recovery Task Force (CART), during which Shanghai Airport Authority (SAA) was invited to share their experience and best practices in epidemic prevention and control. More than 140 representatives from countries such as the US, Canada, UK, Japan, Singapore, and organizations such as ACI, IBAC, and EU attended the online conference.
From January 22 to October 17, the two airports in Shanghai received a total of 24,421 international and regional flights and therefore accumulated rich experience in epidemic prevention and control. During the teleconference, Shanghai Airport Authority introduced the measures and key tasks at different stages of the pandemic as well as the current supporting capabilities for international flights, and shared SAA’s efforts in the implementation of the Guidance for Air Travel as developed by ICAO to promote the recovery of the global aviation industry. Various practical measures adopted during deplaning and arrival were highlighted, such as the contactless procedures for passengers to go through formalities at the airport, digital identity management, “cloud services” for epidemic prevention and control, contactless shopping and catering services, the Wechat mini app for the filling and reporting of health information, and the immediate disinfection of hands and devices by the inspection personnel after checking each passenger. SAA emphasized that the joint prevention and control mechanism with Chinese characteristics was the key to achieving the current success in the epidemic prevention and control, and called on the global civil aviation industry to strengthen cooperation and exchanges to jointly respond to the crisis.
