CAAC Administrator Feng Zhenglin meets with Chief Executive of Hong Kong SAR Carrie Lam and her associates in Beijing.

On November 4, CAAC Administrator Feng Zhenglin met with Chief Executive of the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region Carrie Lam and her associates in Beijing. The two sides exchanged in-depth views on strengthening civil aviation cooperation between the Mainland and Hong Kong, consolidating and enhancing Hong Kong’s position as an international aviation hub, and the opportunity for Hong Kong to play a key role in the building of a world-class airport cluster in the Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Greater Bay Area.

Feng Zhenglin introduced the measures taken by the civil aviation industry in the Mainland to control the pandemic as well as the recovery that has been achieved. Feng expressed that CAAC firmly supports the government of Hong Kong SAR to perform the duties in accordance with the law and maintain stability, and that CAAC has always valued civil aviation development in Hong Kong, which can be reflected in the slew of measures adopted during the pandemic outbreak to ensure the stable and smooth transport of passenger and cargo in Hong Kong. In the next step, CAAC will support the deepening of mutually beneficial and win-win airport cooperation in the Greater Bay Area; support Hong Kong in the building of an influential aviation professional training center that could boost the development of Asia-Pacific Region and countries along the Belt and Road; and CAAC is willing to work with relevant departments creatively to promote the development of multimodal transport in both passenger and cargo service as well as cross-border helicopter business in the Greater Bay Area, to enable more convenient and efficient aviation services, so as to consolidate and enhance Hong Kong’s position as an international hub, and create a more internationally competitive world-class airport cluster, and therefore form a new collaborative pattern for aviation development.

Carrie Lam expressed her gratitude to CAAC for the long-term attention and strong support to Hong Kong’s aviation industry. She pointed out that the pandemic has taken a really heavy toll on the aviation industry in Hong Kong, but Hong Kong will still work hard to deepen exchanges and cooperation with the Mainland, and strive to enhance international competitiveness so as to bring new opportunities and impetus to passenger and cargo flows in the Greater Bay Area.
