To thoroughly implement the spirit of the Seventh National Symposium on Tibet Work, a working meeting on civil aviation aid for Tibet was held in Lhasa on May 28. The meeting introduced the achievements of civil aviation aid for Tibet in recent years, highlighted the determination to fully implement the Party’s general plan for Tibet in the new era and clarified the overarching approach and the key tasks of civil aviation aid for Tibet in the next step. Feng Zhenglin, Administrator of CAAC, Wu Yingjie, Secretary of the CPC Tibet Autonomous Regional Committee, and Qizhala, Chairman the Tibet Autonomous Region attended the meeting and delivered speeches. CAAC Deputy Administrator Dong Zhiyi hosted the meeting. During the meeting, CAAC and the People's Government of the Tibet Autonomous Region officially signed the Strategic Cooperation Agreement on Promoting High-quality Development of Tibet's Civil Aviation, which covered 16 aspects, such as improving the layout of transport airports, advancing the building of smart civil aviation, and enhancing the supporting capacity of ATC.
During the 13th Five-Year Plan period, Tibet's civil aviation industry completed a total of 231 000 aircraft movements and transported 24.837 million passengers and 197 000 tons of cargo and mail, with an average annual increase of 10.3%, 12.3% and 11.4% respectively from 2015 to 2019. In 2020, Tibet launched 28 new routes, including 10 new destinations, and carried out 49 000 aircraft movements, with passenger traffic and cargo and mail volume respectivley standing at 5.154 million and 47 000 tons, which were 93.5%, 89.6% and 108% of the 2019 levels respectively. At present, 11 airlines are operating flights to and from Tibet on 130 international and domestic routes connecting Tibet to 61 destinations.
