At 14:38 on March 21, China Eastern Flight MU5735 from Kunming to Guangzhou lost contact and crashed over the city of Wuzhou, Guangxi. There were 123 passengers and 9 crew members on board the aircraft. Immediately following the accident, both Chinese President Xi Jinping and Premier Li Keqiang made important instructions. As a part of its swift actions to implement the important instructions by President Xi Jinping and Premier Li Keqiang, Civil Aviation Administration of China (CAAC) activated the emergency mechanism as soon as it received reports of the accident, and dispatched a working team to the scene to handle the accident and carry out investigation. CAAC also issued immediately a Urgent Notice on Improving Civil Aviation Safety, and Notice on Stepping up Efforts to Ensure Civil Aviation Security, which specifically required more industry-wide efforts to improve aviation safety.
As required by CAAC, efforts shall be made to strengthen leadership in improving aviation safety;step up risks prevention and control, and hidden hazards identification and elimination;strictly implement rules, regulations and operational standards;and fulfill safety oversight obligations.
