Liu Fang Attends the Asia Pacific Summit for Aviation Safety04/04/2023

The Asia Pacific Summit for Aviation Safety was held in Singapore from March 22 to 24. Liu Fang, special representative for the Administrator of CAAC, led a delegation to the Summit. S. Iswaran, Minister for Transport and Minister-in-charge of Trade Relations, attended and spoke at the opening ceremony. Present at the Summit was some 450 representatives from 35 countries and regions, as well as from international organizations, airlines, airports, air navigation service providers and research institutions.

A number of workshops and panel discussions were held during the Summit. Han Kok Juan, Director-General of the Civil Aviation Authority of Singapore, presided over the High Level Panel, during which discussion was made on the safety challenges faced by the recovering aviation industry in the Asia Pacific region, countermeasures, and how to further strengthen cooperation. Liu Fang said during the High-Level Panel that since the outbreak of COVID-19, to ensure aviation safety during the recovery of the industry, CAAC, confronted by such difficulties as decline in employee skills, increase in personnel mobility, and insufficiency in safety-related investment, has stayed committed to striving for progress while ensuring stability, innovating its regulation policies, strengthening its supervision of personnel qualifications and paying close attention to operational risks. Liu Fang called on governments around the world to promote operational data sharing through strengthened communication and coordination, and improve safety via utilization of advanced technologies, in a joint effort to make progress in the recovery and sustainable and safe development of the industry.

The Asia Pacific Summit for Aviation Safety was co-organized by the Civil Aviation Authority of Singapore and the Flight Safety Foundation. Topics discussed included addressing safety risks amidst air travel recovery and global shifts, mitigating disruptions to air navigation services, incorporating disruptive technologies safely, addressing climate change safely, and mental health and wellness of aviation professionals.
