The First Skills Competition for Globally Competitive Professionals in Civil Aviation of China Held07/04/2023

To fully implement the strategy of strengthening civil aviation through science, education and talents, and advance reform on workforce development in civil aviation, the First Skills Competition for Globally Competitive Professionals in Civil Aviation of China was held between March 27 to 29 in Beijing, with 30 contestants and 28 organizations receiving awards. Han Jun, Deputy Administrator of CAAC, was present at the final round and addressed the closing ceremony.

The competition was co-hosted by National Civil Aviation Trade Union, Department of Personnel, Science & Technology and Education of CAAC, Department of International Affairs (Office of Hong Kong, Macau and Taiwan Affairs) of CAAC, and National Communist Youth League in Civil Aviation, and organized by International Cooperation and Service Center of CAAC in collaboration with Air Traffic Management Bureau of CAAC and Capital Airports Holdings Limited. This Competition was not only an innovation by the National Civil Aviation Trade Union in the holding of skills competitions, but also an exploration of new paths to cultivate globally competitive professionals in the civil aviation sector.

Organizations in the civil aviation sector have been reported to actively organize qualifying competitions since 2022. 79 contestants from 28 participating organizations were qualified for the national competition after rounds of selection. The national competition was divided into semi-final and final rounds. The semi-final consisted of a written test on theoretical knowledge and an oral presentation, mainly to assess contestants’ basic knowledge and capability of working in an international setting. The final round highlighted personal presentations of contestants, which contained a themed presentation and a Q&A.

The audience for the final round included colleagues from All-China Federation of Trade Unions, members of the organizing committee, presidents and directors of offices of trade union of civil aviation organizations headquartered in Beijing, all contestants of the competition, colleagues present for the founding ceremony of the Alliance of Civil Aviation Globally Competitive Professionals, and trainees of the 6th Training Course for Best Middle-Aged and Young Performers in Flight Operations. Additionally, the final round of the competition was broadcasted simultaneously on multiple platforms including the video account and Weibo of CAAC News, with accumulated 53,000 views and 22,000 likes.
