CAAC Releases Technical Specifications for Civil Airport Engineering Monitoring and Technical Specifications for Aircraft Bridge Structure Monitoring at Civil Airports06/06/2025
Recently, CAAC issued two industry standards - Technical Specifications for Civil Airport Engineering Monitoring (Engineering Monitoring Specifications) and Technical Specifications for Aircraft Bridge Structure Monitoring at Civil Airports (Bridge Monitoring Specifications). These specifications aim to enhance the monitoring capabilities and safety risks prevention and control of critical facilities and risk areas at civil transport airports. This marks the first time that CAAC has released specialized technical specifications for engineering monitoring for civil aviation engineering construction standard system since the 2024 issuance of the Notice on Carrying out Safety Monitoring of Slope Stability and Aircraft Bridge Structures at Civil Transport Airports. The new specifications provide technical support for the monitoring system development at civil airports.
Currently, among China's 263 certified transport airports, 91 have high slopes and 76 have aircraft bridges in service. Under the increasing frequency of extreme weather conditions and heavy rainfall during summer season, airports face risks such as secondary geological disasters on high slopes and potential bridge collapses. As a major step in advancing monitoring efforts, establishing a standardized system is crucial. The two pieces of newly issued industry specifications contain various technical requirements for monitoring during airport construction and operation, offering basis and guidance for standardized airport construction and operation.
The Engineering Monitoring Specifications outlines general requirements and basic provisions for civil airport engineering monitoring. It defines monitoring conditions, items, points layout, frequencies, and durations for key elements such as groundwater, sites, earth foundations, and slopes during both construction and operational phases. The Engineering Monitoring Specifications also emphasizes the scientific and rational application of monitoring results, detailing data processing and analysis, early warning mechanisms, monitoring systems, and data platforms. Additionally, it proposes analytical methods for settlement deformation prediction and advocate for minimally intrusive automated monitoring technologies.
The Bridge Monitoring Specifications refines monitoring requirements for aircraft bridges. Based on bridge structural types, service time, and key maintenance challenges, the Bridge Monitoring Specifications provides detailed provisions on monitoring content, point arrangement, methods, system management, and data application - especially identifying the functions and architecture of industry-wide platforms and single-bridge systems.
