Circuit Breaker Measures for Scheduled International Passenger Flights Adjusted08/08/2022

The Civil Aviation Administration of China (CAAC) made adjustments to the circuit breaker measures for scheduled international passenger flights starting from 7 August, 2022 under the deployment of the Joint Prevention and Control Mechanism of the State Council in a bid to effectively coordinate COVID-19 prevention and control as well as social and economic development, facilitate cross-boarder personnel movements and international exchanges and cooperation, and contain the pandemic in a more scientific and precise way.

The adjusted circuit breaker measures are as follows:

For an airline carrying 5 passengers or above who test positive for COVID-19 on a single inbound flight, if the number of the confirmed passengers reaches 4% or above of the total number of passengers flying on the said single inbound flight, the airline’s operation on that specific route shall be suspended for 1 operation; if the number of the confirmed passengers reaches 8% or above of the total number of passengers flying on the said single inbound flight, the airline’s operation on that specific route shall be suspended for 2 operations. The quota of the flight(s) involved in a “circuit breaker” shall not be allowed to be transferred to other routes.

Relevant policies will be subject to necessary adjustments in due time in accordance with the pandemic situation and related prevention and control requirements.
