On March 21, CAAC issued 2021 Statistical Bulletin of Civil Airport Development in China (“Statistical Bulletin”).
The Statistical Bulletin shows there were 248 certified transport airports in China in 2021, all of which were open to scheduled flights that connect 244 cities (or regions).
In terms of major development indicators, 2021 witnessed a passenger throughput of 907.483 million by civil transport airports in China, 5.9 % up over 2020 and 67.1% of 2019 level, of which 904.432 million traveled on domestic routes and 3.051 million, international routes. Cargo and mail turnover reached 17.828 million tons, 10.9% up compared with the previous year and 104.3% of 2019 level, of which 9.794 million tons were transported on domestic routes, and 8.034 million tons on international routes. Aircraft movements totaled 9.777 million, 8% more than 2020 and 83.9% of 2019 level, of which 9.533 million movements were completed by domestic flights, and 245 thousand, international flights.
Regarding passenger traffic, the Statistical Bulletin shows that among all transport airports, 29 handled an annual passenger throughout of over 10 million, up by 2 compared with 2020; 32, between 2 to 10 million, 5 more than 2020; and 187, less than 2 million, same with 2020.
On cargo and mail turnover, the Statistical Bulletin recorded 61 transport airports with annual turnover over 10000 tons, up by 2 compared with 2020; and 187 with annual turnover less than 10000 tons, 5 more than 2020.
