A direct round-trip route between Xiamen and London, the capital of the UK, was launched on September 6, when Xiamen Airlines' inaugural flight MF821 left Xiamen Gaoqi International Airport at 00:50 with 263 passengers and arrived at London Heathrow Airport after about 12 hours. As the first direct passenger route from Fujian to London in the province's civil aviation history, it ends the previous need for travelers between Fujian and the UK to transfer via a third place, opening an efficient and convenient air corridor between the two.
The Xiamen–London service, numbered MF821/MF822, is operated by Boeing 787 wide-body Dreamliner aircraft, with three weekly flights on Wednesdays, Fridays, and Sundays. The outbound flight MF821 departs Xiamen at 00:50 and arrives at London Heathrow Airport at 6:35; the return flight MF822 departs London Heathrow at 12:35 and lands in Xiamen at 7:00 the next day (all flight times are local), with a total flight duration of about 12 hours.
